WIW 9/24 - A bit of whimsy

Other than my handknit sweater, this outfit feels rather boring to me. It doesn't get any more simple than a pair of pants and a pullover. I'll have to work on more interesting ways of styling this top. All suggestions are welcome!

When I was knitting this, some of my friends asked me if I was making it for my 9 yo daughter. I suppose the bright purple/pink/green combo (colors are not true in photo) and the motif do read as juvenile, but I'm not going to worry about that too much. Next time, I'll knit something out of rope and bedeck it with studs. That should toughen up my look!

WIW 9/20 (Anna made me do it)

Hi ladies, long time no see! Anna made me promise to post a WIW picture, so here it is. I'm afraid the quality is terrible, but at least I'm keeping my promise :)

All of these things are old pieces, except the shoes. The red shoes are a recent buy at Nordie's Rack. They are Via Spigas.

I haven't done much clothes shopping at all this year, but I can't seem to resist the shoes. Look at the funny spotted shoes I bought last spring: :)

WIW 01/30 - Floral Jacket - low contrast experiment

This jacket just arrived from asos yesterday and I had to wear it. While I don't think the fit is a 10, it's good enough, the price was right and I anticipate having a lot of fun with it. I also bought the matching trousers, but they're designed for someone several inches shorter than I am, so they are going back. My floral suit will just have to remain the stuff of dreams.

I'm experimenting with low contrast colors today...not my usual thing.

I had to take this picture in a hurry, so didn't notice my necklace was skewed until it was too late. Bummer.

WIW 01/29/13 - What's black and blue all over?

Me! This outfit was inspired by the black, blue and white formula Angie posted yesterday.

Blue Jacket - from White House Black Market
White Turtleneck - Gap
Black Skirt - Halogen

Any suggestions for improvement are always welcome.

Also, how do you feel about the white turtleneck? I recall some negative comments about white turtlenecks on Angie's post regarding an outfit sported by Ines and am now a bit paranoid about wearing this.

WIW 01/25/13 - FFBO for a Night on the Town

Hubby's taking me out to dinner tonight for my birthday, which is on Monday, aka National Kazoo Day.

I'm wearing my McGinn jacket, turtleneck, Halogen skirt and Foley & Corinna purse. It's such an easy and comfy formula.

WIW 01/24/13 - Wrap Dress & leather Jacket

I sewed this dress last year (?) and it has turned out to be a real workhorse for me. It's not bodycon like a lot of knit dresses and the colors work with a lot of things in my wardrobe. To spice things up, I added my black leather jacket and my suede booties.

I had to have the heels on the booties fixed recently, because I wore off one of the caps. The cobbler ended up taking off 1/2" of both heels. I wasn't upset about the loss of height, but my right heel is wobbly. I hope that's a temporary thing. I'm not having any luck finding black booties I like as much.

I always appreciate your comments and suggestions!

WIW 01/22/2013 - Fast Fall Back Outfit

I had an outfit planned for today, using my recently purchased rugby stripe sweater. Unfortunately, when I went to put it on, I noticed the neckline was coming unraveled. I put some safety pins in it to stop it from falling apart any further, and don't know if I can repair it satisfactorily. I'm steamed about that. I only wore it once!

I had to throw on something quick and decided on an outfit I've worn on multiple other occasions during the past year.

Jacket: Vince Camuto
Silk Flower pin
Red top - sewn by me
Trousers: Lafayette 148
Shoes: Crown Vintage

It's been one heck of a week, so I chose to wear something that was extra comfortable for casual Friday: dark wash jeans, a soft t-shirt and a cozy sweater.

Jeans: NYDJ
T-shirt: Mossimo from Target
Booties: Vince Camuto

WIW 01/17/13 - Bipolar Outfit

My emotions were all over the place this morning when I got dressed. I was determined to banish the blues, so I threw on a hectically colorful top. At the same time, I felt like I needed lots of structure to bolster my forced cheerfulness so threw on the black jacket and trousers. The blue booties were an afterthought. I'm not sure if this outfit is successful or not, but it got me through the day.

What I am sure of, though, is that YLF is a generous and supportive community. I don't think I would have made it through this week with my chin up if it weren't for your support.

I've got some REALLY good news to share! I confronted management today and explained to them that the review process had been demoralizing and that I didn't feel as if I had any concrete things I could do to improve in the future.

The amazing thing is they actually listened to me. They shredded my first evaluation form and rewrote it using my suggestions. It turned out to be a lot more useful for my development and helped reassure me that I was on the right track. In addition, they will be changing the entire review process next year. Some of the changes were due to my feedback, particularly when it comes to what kinds of critique are constructive.

Chalk one up for the little guy today.
