WIW 11.6.13 - Checkered

I absolutely could not resist this Ann Taylor skirt. It's in a refined fabric with a flirty silhouette with a quirky patchwork look....and it was 40% off of an already marked down price. YAY!

Top: thrifted
Jacket: Halogen
Boots: Clarks

Layers are key for me at this time of year. I'll need the jacket to keep me warm while my office "heater" blows out cold air all morning. I'll need to strip that off in the afternoon when the heater starts working and turns my office into an oven.

P.S. I just noticed that my dress form is in a state of deshabille. I must cover the poor gal up!

    LOL about the dress form:-)

That skirt is fun!! I love how you've paired it with this top that also has a touch of white in it, Amy. Great look with the boots and leather jacket.
Also: it's so wonderful to see your outfit posts again, thanks for sharing.

Trumpet skirt! My favorite! So glad to see them appearing in stores again. You look great. I really like the pairing with the leather pieces.

What a fun sweater and skirt! I can see why you snapped it up!

Such a great trumpet skirt... and, like Diana, I am cheering their return. You look both chic and playful today.

That looks so good Amy! I love how you paired it with the top.

I love that skirt and how you've styled it.  The dress form on the other hand...I think she could do better.  ;)

Ok, I really like the skirt. I just don't like that top with it. It looks marginally OK with the leather jacket over it. I do not like the twee little bow hanging off the side.

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

Ouch! I know this top isn't your cup of tea, Anna. I like it though. I feel the white ties are flattering for my figure in the way a wrap top is. I don't see them as twee in the way I do Peter Pan collars and Mary Jane shoes. Maybe I'm wrong?

At any rate, I appreciate your feedback.

    I was a bit harsh.
You are right, the diagonal lines are flattering on your body. That's why it works under the jacket. It's just that without the jacket, there's this weird shoestring effect.

Gorgeous skirt on you Amy. I can see this working really well with your style. I would also look great with your new BR black/white bow sweater, yes? I totally get what you're saying with respect to this top working like a wrap and I like how the white pulls out the white in the skirt.

Hey - would "our" red Gap blazer work with this skirt too?

    Yes, fun skirt!

Anna, I like those ideas, particularly the 1st one, thanks!

The skirt is so much fun, and the top is very flattering.  I see why you snapped them both up!

I loved that skirt too -- and I love how you've paired it with the leather jacket and all black just to let the skirt be the star. SO flattering and perfect for you!
