Clothing Swap: My Fashion Show

Yesterday's swap was one of the most fun things I've done recently! Thank you, Antje & Angie for doing all the hard work to make it possible.

So many people showed up that I didn't really get a chance to speak to them all, which was a shame. There were lots of new faces (at least to me), and it was enjoyable getting to know those ladies. It was also great catching up with some of the forum regulars.

There were quite a few clothes and shoes to look through as well as a table of accessories. I had a great time sorting through it all and trying on lots of things. I was actually quite surprised by how much I hauled home. Many thanks to those of you who contributed to my wardrobe refresher. I love all of these new-to-me items and expect them all to get quite a bit of wear.

Pictures 1&2 - What I wore to the swap, including my home-sewn dress and some earrings that received a few compliments.

#3 - I LOVE this dress. So fun!

Picture #4 - this top is on the snug side, but it's good for layering under things, like the vest in #5.

#6 - a nice basic in a great color.

#7 - This scarf is a gorgeous print and in some of my favorite colors!

#8-10 - I was happy to find some warmer weather items. I don't have many right now.

#11 is one of my absolute favorite things. Thanks Jenava!! It goes really well with this hat of my husbands, don't you think? (Picture 12) Just kidding ;) Jenava suggested that I shorten the collar, but right now, I like it as-is.

#13 - Super cute jacket! It doesn't look great with jeans here, but works very nicely with a skirt or dress. I love the stripes and the special buttons.

#14-15 - a couple of blouses

All the clothes and shoes were great, but Angie's cake, Kari's quiche and the mimosas were really tasty and well worth coming for all by themselves!

Wow! You are looking very rockstar in the at fur vest.

First, I love the WIW outfit. So impressed that you made that dress and the styling is out of this world. I would have complimented you too!
Too much to further compliment but I love the scarf, vest(s), black jacket and white shirt as favorites. Nice day!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Well, Amy. I think we all agree that you are beautiful both inside and out. Seeing your happy persona scour through the rails along with your wit and charm was a treat in itself :)

    (Your banana bread was divine!).

    I LOVE #3. That's K to the power on K on you!

#11 is another fave, as is #7 (my scarf found a happy home), #5, #14 and #15. Great haul and enjoy! Thanks again for the table moving muscle.

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Amy, it was (and always is) such a joy to chat with you in person again. I'm so glad that you were able to make it. You look amazing in your finds! (The Old Navy vest in #5 was one of mine, and I'm amazed at how much better it looks on your frame - yay!

Jenava's vest looks great on you, and you totally cracked me up with #12 - Halloween costume potential! ;)

I think that Kasmira of WhatIWore2Day has the same dress as in #3, if you are looking for some uber-hectic pattern mixing inspiration!

Your own outfit was so beautiful - I love the orange scarf and as I mentioned in person, I'm crazy about those earrings.

Seriously loved your banana bread, and thanks for the compliments on the quiche - I'm blushing!

Wow you got some great stuff and they all look like you so will work well with your existing wardrobe. The polka dot dress & fur vest are my favs. Well done.

  • Mo replied 11 years ago

Ooh, this is fun seeing everyone's loot. I love when an item gets a second chance and a new home! I will have to try and make one of these now that I'm on the west coast again. Looks so fun.

Wow - how fantastic Amy! These are all wonderful - and it sounds like such a fun time!

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

Slightly OT: were you sore at all yesterday, or today? Last night my biceps ached - I felt like I'd just left a weight lifting class, which is a sign that I need to get back to a weight training regimen at the gym! My arm muscles were too tired to hold my book up in bed at the end of the day so I propped it on a pillow and only raised my arms to turn the page. I felt like such a wimp! But after a hot bath today I'm feeling great again.

What a model you make! You found some real winners - my favorites are 3, 5, 14 and 15 but what a great story and way to refresh your wardrobe.

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

#3 is stunning!!! Great haul overall. Sounds like such a fun day:)

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Wow, Amy! You made out like a bandit. Fabulous haul - would have loved to see that crowd. It sounds like it brought lots of variety and general fabness!

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

Great scores Amy! What a fun gathering you all had.

  • christy replied 11 years ago

Wow - what a haul! Really wish I could have been there!

Love the outfit you wore and still amazed at your sewing skills. My favorites are #3 - super sassy little polka dot dress! Seems like it will be really versatile - those sheer sleeves lighten it up for spring and summer. Throw on a pair of sandals and you're good to go. And obviously you can style it with the opaque tights and boots for a cooler weather look. Fun! #5 - another versatile piece. Dress it up for work, dress it down with denim. The fur vest is #11 is fab (and the look on your face and that hat in 12 are priceless), love the jacket in #13 and that blouse in #14 is beautiful.

  • Jaime replied 11 years ago

Well your new dress is amazing. Everything else looks great too. It sounds like you had a blast!

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Christianne - the fur vest makes me feel like a rock star. I just need some leather pants and a guitar and I'll be ready to go.

Angie, you're an absolute doll. I'm often moved by how kind and thoughtful you are towards everyone you encounter. Really, I LOVED your neon yellow jacket. I'm thrilled with your scarf, but now it's even more special to me because it came from you.

Kari, anytime you want help eating some quiche, give me a holler. Sooo yummy! Thanks for suggesting Kasmira's blog for inspiration with the dress. She's really fun and creative. As for sore muscles, my body is tired and creaky all the time, so I'm having a difficult time noticing if there are any new aches and pains after yesterday's heavy lifting...THANK YOU for the vest, too. When I first saw it, I thought to myself, Kari often wears vests and looks smashing in them. I want to try one out to. It's great to have something directly from my source of inspiration!

    Kiwichick and JJ--thanks!

Deborah - When I tried this on, I had you in mind! I love your high drama black and cream outfits and was thrilled to find something kind of like what you wear.

Rae - I know, right? I feel spoiled with all the goodies I found.

Meredith - We sure did have fun. I wish you could have been there!

  • Jewell replied 11 years ago

Your WIW is awesome! I love it, and I too am impressed by your sewing skills. Great loot...that scarf is my absolute favorite!

  • Sarah A replied 11 years ago

that is a ton of great finds! i love the dress and the fun tank in #10. sounds like a super fun day!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Amy, such a nice thing to say :). As Kari pointed out, it's really fun to see your ex-items look so brilliant on other people. (I guess my jacket provided a little extra fluorescent light for the room).

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

Wow, you really cleaned up, Amy! How fab, and I love your cheeky poses :).

  • replied 11 years ago

These are awesome from the thumbnails, but I can't get the pictures to open! Arg!

There, I got them! Wow, that dress is amazing on you! What fab legs you have! I'm sure everything will have it's place in your wardrobe, but the showstoppers I see are the dress, Angie's scarf, the fur vest, and the green/blue floral blouse. Excellent haul, and it sounds like you all had a really fun time! :)

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Amy, I can't stand you in #3 - that is SO fantastic! Will you be able to wear that for work? Or will that be just for fun? I also adore 7 and 14.

It sounds like you had a great time. I really love your new backdrop with the natural light (I wish I had someplace in my house to take photos) and your cute poses and facial expressions : )

  • debba replied 11 years ago

    Hi there!
#8, 9 and #14 were my shirts. Fun to see who gave them a new closet. I especially love #14 on you. :)

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Amy, what a rich and beautiful haul! This looks like the contents of a real treasure chest. Most importantly, we can see you're really happy with everything you brought home --- that's a prize in itself, isn't it?

I'm in awe of the variety and versatility of all the items you found and how well you wear them. But after all, if they came from such fab people as Angie and Kari and Jenava, they would be great pieces. Loving the tops that came from Debba: she clearly has great taste too --- being where I am, I'm most envious of your summer wardrobe booster shot, even though everything else is so lovely I can't even begin to pick favourites.

And I can hardly believe you *made* that sweet little dress you wore to the swap. Nice scarf tying, too. Must hunt down a tutorial --- it looks so neat yet has great fall/drape.

  • replied 11 years ago

Amazing loot. You look like a model in each and every shot.
By the way, I am green with envy ... I so wish I was there. I am so attending the next one. I'm serious.

  • Suz replied 11 years ago

Wow, Amy, you look spectacular in all of these, and what a great haul! Plus, you make a fantastic, cheeky, adorable model!

  • cheryl replied 11 years ago

Wow! What great new goodies :) You look fantastic in all of them.

  • Jenava replied 11 years ago

Amy, I'm cracking up at that hat! And very happy the furry vest has found a new home! I am quite jealous the polkadot dress, the vest with the lace print and that gorgeous pink and neon scarf! What an amazing haul!

  • lyn67 replied 11 years ago

Amazing haul! Love them all, but nr. 3 is special, indeed!

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Oh, Debba! Thanks so much for the fabulous blouses. I wish I had been able to chat with you a little more.

Zapotee, I hope you can make it next year. That would be great.

    Thanks everyone!
