WIW 01/01/13 - Stripes and Spots

I wish I could take outfit photos in natural light, but my schedule doesn't allow for it. The flash makes my tights look sheer, but they're opaque.

This outfit was inspired by one of Annagybe's.

Sweater: TJ Maxx
Turtleneck
Red Skirt - Sewn by me. It's very similar to the Halogen seamed pencil skirt

Beautiful. I wish I could wear red skirts.

So pretty! And I love that you made your red skirt!

You look GREAT. 10 out of 10 :)

I do love a bold rugby stripe. The patterned booties look wonderful with the ensemble! Fun!

The holidays were good to you, Amy. You look relaxed and at peace with the world. xo

FAB look, Amy!! Love it this on you. The bold stripes are just so much fun with the red skirt.

Love the chic simplicity of this outfit and the stripes/color give a nod to Kate Spade, but with some funk, thanks to the booties.

And nice job on the skirt!

Just had to log back in to say how great you look, love your photography, actually and to say that you are ultra-talented. Amazing job on the skirt! I thought to myself "looks like she has the famous Halogen pencil skirt", and to think you made this yourself! Well done!

    Thank you, everyone!

@NPM, I bet you could wear a red skirt, no problem. It's the colors near the face that are trickier.

Fab! I love the colour of your skirt :)

This is so nice, Amy. Is the skirt lined? That is one step I try to avoid at all costs when sewing.
I love the booties with the skirt! Guess my eye is getting accustomed to this look as I was admiring Shannon's dress and bootie combination today too.

Like Anne, I detect a bit of a Kate Spade vibe here as well. I love rugby stripes and this black and white sweater looks fantastic with the red skirt: bold and graphic. Fun pattern mixing with the booties too, I'm taking notes.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments! I hadn't thought of the Kate Spade aspect, but you're right. And since this outift has a high happiness factor for me, I'm going to look at her outfits a little more closely and see what I can learn. Thank you.

Pil, the skirt is lined. I try to line most skirts, dresses, jackets and dress slacks for a few reasons: (1) linings help the garment keep its shape; (2) linings help the garment drape over your body nicely; (3) no slip required!

They're not all that difficult to add, so I encourage you to try :)

Amy, let me begin by saying that I am envious your ability to sew your own skirts. Sewing is a skill I do not posess. Secondly, this outfit is bold - and you really make it shine. I have an orphan red pencil skirt in my closet and you've given me some thought was how to style it. Keep the great looks coming!

Ahh, wow! I'm flattered. I love this look! I think the stripes are brilliant.

OOOHHHHH love this Amy! I love the bold oversized stripes with the red skirt and I like how the shape of the sweater works towards the de-bombshelling of the skirt as well. And then those fun and unexpected booties just give the whole outfit even more ooomph!

Red, White and Black is such an energetic and graphic combo. I'm interested in developing a couple of skirt patterns for myself come spring, although I want to start with a fullish midi chambray --- big inverted or box pleats.

You make great fabric choices and execute so well, Amy. I wear this color combo and even have a red pencil, but the leopard booties are such a rich accent.

    Happy New Year!
