WIW 10.21.13 - Navy & Purple

Figure flattery has become a bigger priority for me lately. I appreciate having a healthy, somewhat fit body, but my figure is not an uncomplicated clothes hanger.

I'm generally a pear with a bit of hourglass thrown in. Unfortunately recommendations for those figure types don't always work because I'm short-waisted and have a high hip. Belts and tucking tend to emphasize my short upper torso. Fit and flare outfits can be nice...or they can be a disaster depending upon where the flare starts.

Today, I'm experimenting with a longer top that doesn't emphasize the waist. Wearing a skirt shortens the appearance of my legs a little bit.

The wide angle lens on my camera makes me look even shorter, lol :) It's like a funhouse mirror!

I don't think you look short at all!  And lovely combo of unexpected colors!

ETA - I am short waisted too.  And low rise pants seem to be the solution for tucking in!

You are so lucky that you can afford leg-shortening and still have long looking gams! (She said, with jealousy eating away at her stubby-legged heart.) Fun colour combo, Amy. I think of that playfulness with colour as one of your signatures.

So glad you're posting again!  You give me such a fresh eye on color combinations, and this is a great example.

Love this look, and even a fun house mirror can't make your legs looks short!

I think the proportions of this outfit work well on you. Your legs still look plenty long! Fun colors, too!

Nice color combo! Looks lovely with your complexion and hair color. I think that the proportions are very flattering and I rather like the longer topper and jacket over the short skirt (esp. with the boots).

Thank you, ladies! I do like this color combination. :)

What nice colors and the proportions are really pleasing. (I still think your belt and tucking from the other day looked really good)

"My figure is not an uncomplicated clothes hanger" = my new motto!

Ok, so I visited this and went hmmm. So I left for a bit, came back and still hmmm.
I think it'd work better if the hose were darker and with black boots. So your whole lower half would be low contrast.

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

I can try that too, Anna. I was trying to bookend my boots with my hair :) Thanks!

  • annagybe replied 10 years ago

Ah ok. How about just making the hose darker then. Even a dark plum would work to keep it colorful.
This is from someone with a huge collection of black footwear so bookending my hair rarely happens.

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

    I think that's a great idea!

I love that burgundy sweater! I like Anna's suggestion with the hose too.

Great color combo and I think you nailed the proportions. I have a high waist too and really have to watch that my waist doesn't look like it's right under my armpits!

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

Shannon, I have never noticed that about your figure. Your fab style is an inspiration to me.

I love the colours!  You look lovely.  And nice necklace.  Is that a quilting mat on your floor?

  • Day Vies replied 10 years ago

Love the tertiary colors you're wearing here (I see purple & green -- the navy looks black on my screen). I hear what you're saying and share your high waist frustrations (shaking fist in the air) I think you would benefit from more structured toppers because they will do all the work for you. I can't give you a specific reason other than the short waist we share but if figure flattery is what you're going for try cropped jackets with a defined waist and I think you'll be pleased.

Love these colours & I like Anna's suggestions too. I also agree with DV that in my experience a structured topper is the best cure for a short waist.

  • Joy replied 10 years ago

I don't have any suggestions as I like this outfit very much. Those boots are gorgeous!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

The colors are very pretty on you, and I don't see any problem with the proportions although I do like Anna's idea for dark boots.

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

Nicole- yes, this is my sewing room :)

Day Vies, thank you for the suggestions. I have some cropped jackets, but they are boxy, so not flattering. I'll have to keep an eye out for something like that.

    Thanks caro & joy!

I like Anna's idea, too. What an awesome sewing room! Sorry to be distracted by that...I like the colors of your outfit and the proportions up top (above the boots).
