WIW 02/06/12 - Neutrals - Masculine Styling - Suggestions Welcome

This neutral challenge is going to be hard for me to make interesting, because most of my neutrals are solids. I'm not sure how to add interest without pattern and textures.

I tried to create a menswear vibe with my clothes. I'm not sure this totally works. I would really love some suggestions for improving this.

I wish I had some wide-legged trousers and a chunky watch.

Incidentally, I get more compliments from men on these bi-color oxfords than I do from women. Guys dig them ;)

I love this! I'd just pop a blazer over all of it because I am congenitally incapable of leaving the house without a blazer! LOL

I like this look Amy - I do like the idea of a chunky watch. You could also swap out the scarf for an actual men's tie done in a loose knot (not tight with the shirt collar buttoned all the way). I'm drooling over the shoes...

Thanks MaryK! I really wanted to wear a blazer, but the shirt's shorter sleeves make jackets uncomfortable. Perhaps I should try a vest instead.

  • MsMary replied 12 years ago

Ooh!! A vest would be perfect!!

  • lyn* replied 12 years ago

A vest would make this outfit SO cute; you have such good ideas Amy!

I love the feminine touch of the scarf instead of the conventional tie; very very fab :D

PS: your hair is so cute!

    Stunning!

I'd like to see the scarf tied just like that but hung around your neck. More edge. It's a super duper outfit and those oxfords are simply spectacular!!

Aack, but you look so adorable! I think your shoes are what elevate the whole look - they ARE spectacular!

I like everyone's suggestions and just wanted to add that with the 3/4 sleeves under a jacket, just fold back the jacket til the sleeve cuffs come out, fold them back over the jacket, and scrunch up the whole lot.

Just what Angie said - I love it, but try the scarf inside the blouse collar. CUTE shoes!

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

Thanks! You gals are the best :)

Amy, I love this! A vest would be very fun. And those Oxfords are amazing.

  • rae replied 12 years ago

I'm so used to seeing you in vibrant color, so this is a fun change! The scarf and shoes definitely add interest.

  • Joy replied 12 years ago

I love this and am inspired to try something similar.

  • Jonesy replied 12 years ago

I think you look lovely--so crisp and polished, but with a bit of dashing fun via those awesome oxfords!

  • Isis replied 12 years ago

Love! The vest idea is great as is having the scarf (or tie) around the skin of your neck.

    The shoes are AMAZING!

What a fresh look! I love it. Angie's suggestion on the scarf is great--such a small change can add so much oomph to a look! I like the idea of adding a vest, too, although it would add another masculine element, and I like the balance you've got going here.

You look great! I like the ideas for stealing hubby's tie (and watch too)! Grab a fedora or trilby and you're all set! I know you have some, but maybe that's too literal. I'm off to check out my man's tie collection!

In addition to or in place of a chunky watch, a chunky bracelet would be great. This is such a cute outfit and the shoes are really fun!!

  • Refugee replied 12 years ago

I would just suggest one tiny adjustment. Scrunch the sleeves up just a bit. A difference between the sleeve length the hem length would kick this up a notch.

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

You've gotten great suggestions! You pull off the menswear look so well! (Jealous!) What kind of oxfords are those--I can't see them very well but they look awesome!

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

Great look close to my heart, and you wear it with such panache!

I MUST have a close-up of those oxfords. Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeze?

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

Thanks ladies! They're Crown Vintage oxfords:

Amy -- would love to see a repost of the outfit with the inside scarf, and maybe a vest! Of course, there is today's outfit to think of now! Let me know if you find a great resource for wide leg trousers!

  • AJ replied 12 years ago

Cute! You've got some great suggestions already. On to Tuesday's outfit...

  • Ginny replied 12 years ago

Cute outfit!!! I love those shoes!!! you have some great suggestions already, I like the idea of the vest!

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

Looks awesome on you! Love those shoes!!! Now a vest or blazer would be jus the thing to complete the pretty picture.

  • nancylee replied 12 years ago

You look adorable, as always, Amy. My first thought was maybe to add a vest for a menswear look....or maybe a much bigger and more dramatic scarf? You could also scrunch the sleeves of your white shirt for interest (I know Angie would approve!)

    Cool shoes!

  • CocoLion replied 12 years ago

The pants and oxfords are a match made in heaven on long-legged you!

I like this simple, minimal look as is. You could wear these pants and oxfords with any number of button downs. Also what do you think of tucking?

  • Ornella replied 12 years ago

I love it Amy and those shoes are TDF.

  • goldenpig replied 12 years ago

Amy, you inspired me to try menswear for my outfit today! Which is a first for ladylike me! Especially since you said in my other thread "I'll try anything at least once"--I agree with that sentiment and love your enthusiasm! I'll post pics when I get home. Thanks for the idea and sharing your outfit!

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

I can't wait to see your version, GP!

  • Vicki replied 12 years ago

May I copy this, Amy! I love and adore it and your oxfords are amazing. I think Angie's scarf idea is a smart one and I'd love to see a photo of you with that. Since I don't have your oxfords, I'll be copying with my Doc Saras. You look fabulous.

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

Great strong outfit Amy! You look just as fab in neutrals (also, who says neutrals can't have patterns? Or is it just that yours are all solid?) I agree with Angie's thought of putting the scarf inside the collar, and can totally see an oversized watch with this. Re the sleeves and blazers, if you roll the blazer sleeves up before putting it on you can probably push the sleeves up over the shirt sleeves letting a wee bit of shirt show (did that make any sense?).

  • Jaime replied 12 years ago

Hey how did I miss this? Love it! Would love to see it with Angie's suggestion, which I would never have thought of, but sounds like a great idea. Also would be good with jacket or vest. A great template!
