WIW 11.4.13 - To the Opera & to the Office

Outfit #1 - I ordered a bunch of things from Boden recently and didn't like anything except this green lace blouse. It's quite boxy, though, so I tried to tame it with a belt. I suspect I'll like it better in general when worn under a suit jacket than belted like this.

Outfit #2 - I'm trying to put my navy Lanai into rotation. I like it a lot, but it demands a kind of simplicity I'm not all that comfortable with.

Happy Monday, everyone!

Oh Amy!!  I love your super glamorous looks!  I dressed like pic 3 without the benefit of cool shoes like yours for 20+ years so I can't help.  Happy Monday back at you!

Whoa, that first pic is so glamorous!  Tell me about the jacket.  Love the Lanai too - it is a streamlined look for sure.

Wow, for nr 3-the kind of simplicity you are not comfortable with??? YLF in this! Opera outfit is so simple and chic! Love the green blouse with  the black pencil and the beads, the furcoat is superglamorously perfect toper to it!:-)

Thanks ladies! I'm getting a lot of compliments on my outfit at work today. I think I cracked the code here. They like conservative legal chic with sparkly snakeskin shoes, lol :)

Una, the fur topper is something I picked up at Macy's last year or the year before. I can look up the label later.

That jacket in #1 looks so luxurious!

Luv both the Lanai and the snakeskin pumps in #2.  How do you feel for next time, keeping the top lower contrast to the skirt?  I think that will let the blazer be the star.

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

Good idea, AJ. I'll have to look out for a top like that. I don't have many options at the moment :)

Well, you look ubber chic in the first outfit, that is going to the Opera in great style.
And I love to see you in the second outfit. To use an older terminology you look very 'clean'.
What don't you like or feel uncomfortable about it?

  • Suz replied 10 years ago

The blouse is so pretty on you, Amy! Love the drape and the colour for you. Such a pretty outfit.

I also love Lanai on you, but you know my love of simplicity, so I'm probably not a good advocate for the jacket! :-)

#1-2 - So glam!  I love your accessories - the pearls, gloves and fur are very elegant and luxurious looking.

#3 - The Lanai looks great on you, for starters.  I'm not sure it demands simplicity so much as offers an air of minimalist cool-ness.  Perhaps a top with a subtle pattern (I am picturing little navy polkadots) or texture (http://quixoticpixels.lookfab......nning-late ?) would provide the extra something you're looking for?  Or a long, simple pendant?  Extra hearts for the snakeskin pumps.  They are dreamy.

You have posted such glamorous outfits lately! I love this luxe, feminine look for nights out. The green lace blouse is beautiful. I think it would also look good tucked but with some of the volume allowed to billow out over the top of the shirt,  IYKWIM.

  • HelenInCanada replied 10 years ago

Whoa - glamour girl! :)  Love all of these looks on you, quite classically feminine yet sharp.

The green lace top is beautiful, and I adore the shoes in pic #3!

YLF as is Amy, these are fantastic outfits. Would a wrap blouse work with the Lanai? I can see that adding a bit more you to the outfit without spoiling the line of the jacket.

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

I don't know, Caro. I think Shannon has worn the jacket with a wrap dress, so it's worth trying. I need to go shopping for tops :)

    Thank you, everyone.

Everybody's going to Opera this month.  Sigh.  I have to spend my weekends at student productions (my students).  This is important, I know, but I need me some Carmen!  What Opera did you see?

BTW --- you look gorgeous in this green.  I think your solution to the volume was perfect.  A wider belt might create more deliberate peplum look.  You're giving the fur a real workout this fall!

The Lanai is lovely on you.  Sometimes I think a garment is put in our wardrobe to teach us new things and helps us see out current items differently.  Maybe this jacket will take your style in new (equally fab) directions.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

Yes of course, Shannon :) Good luck with the shopping.

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

Thank you Beth Ann and caro.
