WIW 10/8/13 - Zigging and Zagging

This outfit feels a little unfinished to me because It's not layered, but I didn't like any of my jackets or sweaters with it, so I'm keeping it simple.

Funny story: DH just got back from NY city and so his head is full of all the things he saw there. He looked at my outfit and exclaimed, "I didn't know you had boots like those. All the ladies in NY wear boots like those!"

I've had the boots for 2 years and have worn them so much I've had to have them repaired by a cobbler twice. It's a good thing I dress to please myself! hahaha

Top: Vince Camuto Zig-zag top
Skirt: Halogen Seamed Pencil skirt
Zig-Zag Tights: from Target
Boots: Kelly & Katie (probably due to be replaced)

P.S. I think I'm giving up on trousers/jeans for the time being. I can't find any that look right on me. Grrr.

Well, you look great in skirts -- and your "new" booties!! Ha!

I like this top on you and I think there is plenty enough going on that it does not need a jacket.

  • amiable replied 10 years ago

Ooh!  I like it lots!  And I don't think it looks a bit unfinished.  Maybe it's a bit more minimal than your usual - but it looks wonderful and polished!

i think this top is best on its own. I love it with the skirt and booties. And laughing at your DH's comment!

  • MsMary replied 10 years ago

I can see why you love those booties -- they hug your pretty ankles just perfectly!!

I think this outfit looks great!  I know what you mean about feeling unfinished without that "third piece," but this totally works for me!

    You look fantastic!

It looks great, no topper needed.  Funny your DH noticed your booties finally after 2 years, they are fab.

  • Debra replied 10 years ago

I love this outfit....the top is fabulous :)
Hehehe men do make you laugh :)

  • Makrame replied 10 years ago

Great outfit (and funny how your DH only noticed these fab boots now)!  I have the same top and for some reason have trouble styling it - your outfit gives me some great ideas.

no need for layering!  this looks fantastic as is!  Andenjoy your "NYC" booties  :D

  • TraceyLiz65 replied 10 years ago

No topper needed here. This way allows the top to really stand out.  So funny about DH, he has to go to NY to recognize his wife is stylish... Well at least he got it!

  • Angie replied 10 years ago

    Wow. Killer.

  • Caro in Oz replied 10 years ago

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

    Thank you!

You outfit looks great and I don't think another layer is needed.  The stripes look great on you and I like the booties and tights.  I could see my DH saying something similar.

  • Janet replied 10 years ago

I love the color and the stripes. You look great! Not too simple at all. Too funny about your "new" boots.

  • JulieJohn replied 10 years ago

How come you look so tremendous in that top? And your pose and facial expression are just right. No apologies about pants, just stick with skirts if they work this well!

  • Carole replied 10 years ago

I love this simple classy outfit, with your very stylish boots! YLF.

  • Transcona Shannon replied 10 years ago

Love this Amy. Sometimes when the pieces work this well together, that third piece just isn't needed.

    Hubbies...they're a silly lot aren't they - lol!

  • Jaime replied 10 years ago

You look terrific and glad DH woke up to your booties!

  • Beth Ann replied 10 years ago

The top is vibrant enough to stand on its own.  Keeping the rest simple draws attention to your face, too.

I hear you on trousers.  Sometimes I take a hiatus on looking for an item that's eluding me.  Fortunately, you have some great skirts!

  • Deborah replied 10 years ago

I dont' think you need a jacket Amy.  The top is lovely and the colour so vibrant.  Fab outfit.

  • Neel replied 10 years ago

LOL!  That's a funny story about DH.  I love your outfit!  Especially the top!

  • lyn67 replied 10 years ago

Love the "Bailey dress" like top with a flatering pencil and sexy booties-funny DH has noticed them in NY- but Amy, do we really have to wear trousers or pants if we don't like/need to?
I too have given up on trousers and pants for my best looks some years ago, and I didn't even missed them! I have a good collection of skirts and dresses for every kind of event and wheater condition needed-and so I do quite good with them!
Of course I do have some pants,  too- but it was painful to find a good cut for me, and they are mainly for  casual looks only so I never feel that polished and flattered in them  as in my beloved skirts /dresses! Now, what has a girl to do against?:-(

  • Amy replied 10 years ago

Good points, Lyn! I'm a little bit worried about the cold, wet weather I'm going to have to deal with in the coming months. I like my legs more covered for those conditions. I'm considering buying another pair of tall boots instead of pants...hmmm :)

  • viva replied 10 years ago

Honestly I am not sure what a jacket would add, and I think it would actually take away! The top is wonderful and has so much interest. Looks fantastic and your outfit in no way feels unfinished to me!

  • Vicki replied 10 years ago

Laughing at what you and Shannon said and I'm in agreement with you, Amy, that it's good to dress for yourself!  :)

The color and style of your top is beautiful on you, as is, and the boots and dark nylons gives you the "layering" that finishes off the outfit.  Hey, if you're cold, you can alway add a pashmina or cape.  Beautiful!

  • jurocha replied 10 years ago

I usually steer away from stripes that aren't straight. But, oh man, isn't this top hands-down awesome?! You look beautiful and the fact that your top made me consider unusual stripes awesome should could as double in this outfit's greatness.

  • Fruitful replied 10 years ago

I've seen a few diagonal stripe tops but this one has something different about it! Looks fantastic and the colour is very you. I'm feeling you about the pants issue! Luckily a skirt works great on you and shows the booties.

  • nancylee replied 10 years ago

Super stylish...and so cute that DH woke up to current fashion after his trip to NYC. :)

  • Firecracker (Sharan) replied 10 years ago

You had me laughing, Amy! Your husband's comments on the boots--priceless! I am nodding along with your comment about unlayered feeling a little undressed, too--I am SO that way. Today I wore a dress with a belt and boots, and I felt a little exposed, without a jacket or vest! But your outfit looks so fab and complete (and I got compliments on mine, too), so I guess unlayered does not really mean unfinished after all.  Love your zigs and zags theme--this outfit is really flattering.
