WIW - Trying to Beat the Spring Chill

Drat, the forum ate my post. I'm not sure what happened. Anyway, here are two outfits I've worn recently.

The first features a new floral sweater with sparkly things on it. I like it a lot, but am not sure if it's too long for this full skirt? The picture angle may not be doing me any favors here.

#2 is a combination of old favorites. I wasn't 100% sure about mixing all of these colors, but I didn't notice anyone snickering behind my back today, so hopefully it was ok. (My hair is wet because I just got back from standing in a field in the rain to watch my daughter play soccer.)

I am starting with #2 as I am totally besotted with this combination. It is stunning. And even with wet hair you look totally fabulous.

#1 is nice however I think what is missing is a slim black belt or red belt. I think that would 'make' the outfit for me and create a little waist definition.

Amy, #2 is fantastic!! You look so great in that blazer and together with the skirt and top? WOWZA. I'll bet you were the fabbest looking soccer mom on the field...and then some.

As for #1, I think it is also wonderful. Full skirt and dotty hose, just like Angie's blog today! I suspect the angle is not doing you favours; I have a feeling IRL the waist definition was probably much more present. The pic is a wee bit washed out, too, so we are not seeing your true shape here. Fab outfit!

I'm not crazy about 1. Gorgeous sweater, though! It's got a lot of high-contrast with the turtleneck showing at your wrists and neck - maybe too much? Although, I understand about getting bundled up. NW spring is a lot like NW winter.
    I love 2 - fun and professional.

#2 is such a flop proof recipe that you wear well, Amy.

I bet #1 looks better in motion. I love the combo :)

That second outfit is fantastic Amy - I really like those colours together and the silhouette is oh so flattering. That navy jacket is gorgeous on you!

I love the floral sweater in outfit #1 but I understand your hesitation about the length with the fuller skirt. I do think your angle might be doing you a disservice here.

I love them both, Amy! I can't believe you were questioning #2 - FAB color combination. And I think #1 is just plain fun.

  • Jaime replied 12 years ago

I sort of agree that #1 might just be taken from a strange angle - I really like it. I love the patterned tights with the booties. #2 is fab - great jacket.

  • Ana replied 12 years ago

Whoa, I love both these outfits, Amy! You look great! The colors of #2 are some of my favorite combinations, and the print on the cardigan in #1 is bold and beautiful. I really like it.

  • annagybe replied 12 years ago

    I really like #1, it's a bit less predictable.

  • Joy replied 12 years ago

I really like #2 and want those pumps! You look polished and stylish. The sweater in #1 is beautiful and the full skirt looks like fun. Would it work to tuck the sweater into the skirt band...full or half tuck?

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

Thanks, everyone. I like the idea of adding a belt to number 1 next time!

  • kellygirl replied 12 years ago

#2 is just perfect. Polished and pretty. I love the sweater in 1--I'm thinking it's all about the picture angle. I bet it looks fab IRL.

Hey Amy, I've missed you! Your sweater is beautiful; I would try it over a black pencil, if you have one. I'm totally in love with outfit number 2! Are we H&M blazer twins? The pumps, the print, the skirt--all just stellar. Hope you didn't catch a cold in the rain. You look so good!

Great to see you post, Amy! I love the colors in #1 -- high contrast and fun. I agree with Deborah that a belt would be nice, and with Angie that this kind of outfit often looks best in 3-D moving pictures! #2 is so sharp and professional. I especially like the tonal element between the shoes and skirt. The slightly darker shoes provide such a nice "grounding" for the outfit. Yeah!

Love, love, love #2! GREAT outfit and such a perfect silhouette on you. Some lovely rain we had today - can't imagine standing out on the soccer field in it! :)

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

    Thanks, gals.

Good to see you too, Claire! My blazer is from Nordies, but it does look a lot like yours :)

  • AJ replied 12 years ago

#2 is FAB! Luv that the dot on the blouse mirror the buttons on the jacket and that different shades of gold/yellow echo throughout the outfit. Nicely styled!

I agree that a belt would help make for a longer legline in #1. Also maybe leave a button or two undone on the cardi? The angle and the black turtleneck kind of make your head appear as if it's floating. : )

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

#2 is superb. Love that jacket on everyone else - I think I must actually be long in the torso because it looked so silly on me. Wear this often!

#1 is confuzzling me - I think it might be the picture angle that making the cardi look too long for the skirt?

  • ManidipaM replied 12 years ago

LOVE the combination in 1, but may I suggest leaving the cardi unbuttoned if not too cold? Might help counter the length issue. Or add a long dark necklace --- string of beads or something, not too dramatic so as to avoid competing with the print. Any kind of vertical line that avoids the eye dwelling on the hemline of the cardi should do it. Even adding a cross-body bag would work, I should think.

As for #2, you've just hit it out of the park. There aren't words enough to say how much I ADORE that look on you. Perfectly on the dot with fun, fashionable and polished feminine!

  • lyn67 replied 12 years ago

Nr 2 is tottaly fab! as for the nr 1 I would rather try a pencil with that sweatter, there is too much fullness both up and down to my eyes, or the skirt with another shorter sweatter.

  • Ginny replied 12 years ago

I like the color combo of #1, but I love #2 great colors and fit!! Hope DD had a good game!!

  • HelenInCanada replied 12 years ago

Amy, your floral top in #1 is gorgeous - perfectly spring fresh. Love the bold black/white combo there. The pleated skirt is so pretty - it's full, so if you're ok with the flouncy fullness, all is good! A tucked-in top would probably be more waist-defining, if that's the look you're after, though. I like both outfits!

  • Aida replied 12 years ago

I like both outfits Amy! I wonder if a scoopneck black top would work with #1? The black at the neck feels a little jarring to me, unless you unbutton the cardi.

  • Meredith1953 replied 12 years ago

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE #2. #1 I am not so sure of but I am not a full skirt fan so I am biased.
