WIW - Saturday & Monday

Saturday

My husband took me out for a casual dinner on Saturday. I tried to faux tuck my grey top and bookend the top with my shoes. I'm just not sure about tucking on me at all. It does two things: draws attention to my short waist and wide hips. Oh well! I was comfortable and had fun!

Crown Vintage  shoes

I also tried a new face powder made by Mattify. It doesn't contain the harmful ingredients that are in a lot of mineral makeup and which cause me to break out with cystic acne. This powder does a nice job of evening out my skin tone. I didn't have time to apply it today, so you can see the difference between 1 & 3.

Monday

I went to Target yesterday with the intention of buying a skirt I had seen on some fashion blogs (Philip Lim's animal print skirt), but was so disappointed in the quality that I left it on the rack. However, I did spot this houndstooth jacket which fits me just right (I can even button it up!) and is made better than you would expect for a $30 jacket.

Merona Houndstooth jacket
Halogen skirt and tee-shirt
Zig Zag tights also from target
katie & kelly booties

Please disregard my messy hair. I was in a rush to get out the door. I fixed it in the office bathroom :)

Your Saturday outfit looks great! The faux tuck works really well to my eye, and I don't see any waist or hip issues at all. I love those oxfords, and they bookend the top perfectly.

That's a beautiful Monday work outfit! I can't believe that jacket was only $30 at Target! It looks fantastic. The pop of color from the tee is great, too.

I think we've been so accustomed to untucked proportions that we aren't used to seeing the curves of the hip area anymore.  The faux tuck creates a nice, and to my eye, attractive, curve at your midline.  I like it -- and the houndstooth jacket is a great "pick-me-up" look for Fall.  Perfect for your wardrobe.

Agreed, I think the faux tuck works great on you and the pairing of shoe/top combo.

Love your work outfit, and what a steal for that jacket.

I'm not sure if it was deliberate but you look very sultry in #2.  I think the half tuck looks really good.  You could try the half side tuck too.  I find the angled drape across the hip has a minimizing effect - not that I think you need it.

I LOVE houndstooth.  I think you have a few solid dresses in blues/purples and it would be great with them and a pair of boots.

I love the semi-tuck on you! Great top and good find on the jacket.

I love the faux tuck....what kind of AE jeans are those? They fit wonderful!

Isn't Target funny - hit or miss with quality, but thankfully you can usually tell by the feel of the item. I like that jacket a lot!

Thanks, ladies! Beth Ann, you're pretty smart :)

Dianthus, I don't have any dresses like you described, but I'm putting them on my list. You're right. They'd look good with this jacket.

Nice date night outfit! I think the semi tuck works fine.
I like your new hounds tooth jacket too. Lovely with the pencil skirt and booties.

You gorgeous creature. You faux tuck with the best of them. I am not used to seeing in dark neutrals, Amy. But #1 and #2 are killer here.

And great new doggie tooth blazer.

Agree with Angie, 1/2 is gorgeous.  I do see a difference with the powder (unless it's because you got some sun this weekend).  Your face, especially your nose, is less pink and more even in pic 1/2 than 3.

Heavens above, Amy. #1/2 is a brilliant outfit on you! I see no problems with your hips or waist at all! On the contrary -- this is super-flattering to my eye. I think the faux tuck is just wonderful, on you and on most people. It smooths the curves of those who feel they have too much in that department, and creates a curve for those who feel they have too little. An amazing trick, really!

LOVE the new houndstooth jacket. What a fun pick-me-up. And I'm still chuckling at your husband's comment about booties and how you should get a pair -- when you obviously wear the ones you have so regularly!

I see zero hip issues here - you look fantastic and you carry yourself so well in terms of posture which makes all of your clothes fall so nicely.  :)

I love the tuck on you. The peep of belt is fantastic with your hair. Great jacket find too :) YLF.

The faux tuck looks great on you, and those grey shoes are marvelous.

I also really love your new houndstooth blazer. I recently bought a houndstooth skirt and was amazed at how many colors in my closet work with it--cobalt, burgundy, black, pink, for starters.

Amy, the semi tuck is super flattering here and I love the grays with your jeans. Even better that you and your husband had a nice time. So envious of your sewing and knitting skills. I wouldn't have noticed had you not mentioned it but I can see that your new powder has even out your skin tone.

Both look great including and especially the coat and jacket (and jeans)!
