WIW - Layering tops - Inspired by Angie and Sveta

You always see me at my most rumpled, I'm afraid. Here I am after a long day at work.

Angie and Sveta often sport sleeveless or short-sleeved shirts layered over button down shirts. I just had to give it a try myself!

I'm wearing a tank I found at the YLF Swap over a thrifted white blouse. Also like Angie and Sveta, turned up the cuffs on my blouse.

You can't really see it in this photo, but I have a long necklace over both adding a bit of sparkle.

Your thoughts and suggestions are appreciated as always!

Wow! That totally works Amy! Lovely look!

I love this look, especially with the cuffs on the button-down shirt folded up to elbow length. Beautiful! I always feel so fussy when I layer over most blouses/shirts, though you are making me want to give it another try.

I was waiting for this to happen, Amy! Rumpled or not but you look smashing!
You can also layer this tank un-tucked if it is not too long.
It is amazing how popped collar and scrunched sleeves instantly add the sass to the outfit, isn't it? (even though one guy at work always points that I have a problem with my collar but I ignore him :-)
Angie is such a good teacher, isn't she?

    @ Meredith - thank you!

@Kari - This combination didn't feel fussy to me. I was worried about that as well. The blouse is nicely fitted and the tank is fairly loose. I think that's the combination to go for when layering items like these.

    @ Sveta - You're right! Angie's fantastic :)

I tried the tank untucked, but it was too long for the skirt. I might try it that way with pants, though.

Very nice Amy. You have taken two conservative pieces - grey skirt and white shirt - and added a bit of playfulness.

This is great! Fun and sassy!

I have this idea on my list of things to try as well - I want to try it with the same crossover top that Angie and Sveta have used.

Love this - gonna have to find a way to copy it with my BB shirt. If you wanted to wear the vest untucked Amy, could you wear a thin belt over top to combat the length of it and define your waist? I love this look on you!

  • AJ replied 11 years ago

Oh the printed tank was a nice choice! I think TS's suggestion of a thin belt over the untucked tank would work as another way to wear this look. I'm YLF programmed to bookend now, so a red belt to echo the shoes was my first thought. : )

This looks great! I love the idea of a sparkle necklace added to it.

This looks great! I am going to try it :-)

Two thumbs up from me. Great look! I'm really loving this tank/layer look that's going on.

Beautiful, Amy! And I also love your backdrop.

If this is your most rumpled I would not survive your awesomeness in the morning when you are fresh ;)
You look beautiful and I like the way you worked the inspiration from Angie and Sveta.

Great look! I would like to try something similar too.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Super-duper, Amy! Humbled to have inspired your outfit. You look fab!

I was going to suggest un-tucking with trousers and jeans, so I am eager to see that combination soon!

This combo is a great weight of warmth for Seattle, don't you think? And you'll start to notice all sorts of possibilities once you get your head around this concept. Today, I'll be wearing a white button down under a see-through sleeveless polka dot blouse. It looks pretty and interesting together to my eye. Same formula!

Great outfit! I tried a similar combo recently and really liked the look. It's starting to get too warm here for layering though.

  • Kiwichik replied 11 years ago

    You totally nailed this look.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Love! Modern take on the sweater vest, yes? I should give it a try, too.

  • Jonesy replied 11 years ago

I love this on you, Amy! It does seem like the perfect way to layer for your climate, and it packs a lot of visual punch. I love your pose :).

    Angie, your outfit sounds fab.

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Thanks, Jonsey :). I'm wearing the combo over tapered black Bermuda shorts. I'll add red shoes and a patterned handbag in a moment when I leave the house.

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Thanks everyone! It was fun to try and I'm all set to do it again later in the week.

Angie, I hope you take a picture of your outfit. It sounds wonderful!
