Two WIW's - New color combos for me

Black and Yellow - Hello!

jacket - Vince Camuto
flower - leftover from a craft project
skirt - Halogen
shoes - Clarks

I'd really like to get a nicer layering shirt to wear under this jacket. This one is nice, but too casual. That's going on my shopping list. Otherwise, I like this outfit.

It Ain't Easy Being Green

At least it's not easy when you buy a skirt made out of flax and discover that that fiber, as nice as it feels, wrinkles as much as linen, if not more. [Edited to add: flax=linen...duh]

I'm trying to de-orphanize this green jacket, which I love, but it doesn't coordinate with much of my wardrobe. The Banana Republic skirt is a disaster.

I like my new shoes, though! They're Liz Claiborne and VERY comfortable. They didn't slip off my heels.

    Pictures?

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

Sorry...I was having trouble with my internet connection. It should be fixed now.

  • missvee replied 12 years ago

I love the look of outfit #2, but I agree, I think it wrinkles more than linen. Too bad!!! I had my eye on this skirt but now I'm having second thoughts. Would you consider taking it back and complaining?

  • Sveta replied 12 years ago

I like yellow and black, never had a reservation about this color combo.
I always thought that linen is made from flax...and yes, I hate its wrinkle ability too.
Love the jacket - it looks black on my screen. What green is it? Doesn't it work with the yellow skirt - or your grey skirt?
Hooray on the comfortable and pretty shoes!

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

Can you do that after wearing it? I've never tried that before, but have to admit that I'm very disappointed in the skirt.

Sveta, you're right about flax/linen. I am a stupid shopper, lol. I should have known that when I bought it.

  • Sveta replied 12 years ago

I agree on taking it back if you are not satisfied with the quality: after all some things are not apparent until you wear the item.

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

Well, had I put two and two together, I would have known that it would wrinkle like that. I don't know that I can blame BR for my ignorance.

  • qfbrenda replied 12 years ago

Too bad about the skirt. :( Awesome shoes, though! I really like the yellow and black together.

I think that linen is better in looser shapes because form fitting garments show wrinkles more and also read more formal and therefore should not be wrinkled.
I wonder if flax with some synthetic fiber in it is less wrinkly...

I wore my version of the yellow skirt/black combo the other day, so it gets a thumbs up from me. Both outfits look fab to me, and the second skirt is so pretty, wrinkles and all. I love your new shoes, too!

That first outfit is so pretty Amy - I love that yellow skirt with the black jacket. The detailing on the jacket is lovely - very Chanel-esque.

That's too bad about the BR skirt. Would you consider keeping it just for casual wear then? It would be comfy with a tee in the backyard on a hot summer day...

Those shoes are fabulous - yay for comfy non-slipping shoes.

Great color combinations! I thought the yellow skirt was the offending one, and I was straining to see any wrinkles, lol! The print of the flax one just might camouflage the wrinkles enough, if you decide to keep it. If you paid full price for it, it's worth having a round with customer service. I really like the outfit you put together with it, though!

You look fantastic in both of these outfits, Amy!

  • catgirl replied 12 years ago

Fab color combo! Linen is a struggle. One upside to living in a cold climate is not having to deal with it!

  • Beth Ann replied 12 years ago

Both outfits are so professional, but still vibrant and fun. And ooooh, love those new shoes!

  • christy replied 12 years ago

Great outfits Amy! You are inspiring me with the Halogen skirt and Vince Camuto jacket - I might have to give that a shot!

Too bad about the skirt though... :(

  • replied 12 years ago

    You look great!

  • Amy replied 12 years ago

    Thanks everyone!

  • Ana replied 12 years ago

Both outfits are great, but I especially love outfit #1 on you! The jacket is really chic and I love how you've styled it with the yellow skirt to make it feel fresh and springlike. It's too bad about the skirt. I agree with Sveta's take on linen above. Could you relegate it to casual wear since it wrinkles so much?

  • Suz replied 12 years ago

The BR skirt LOOKS really good.

I have a linen pencil skirt in white from them. It does wrinkle, yes...but somehow I don't mind that too much. I only wear it in summer, mind you.

Both outfits are terrific, Amy, and the shoes look wonderful! And they don't slip off your feet? That is a miracle in my book.

  • AJ replied 12 years ago

I struggle with yellow and black because I associate it with bumble bees. I like your pairing, especially since you added red to the mix as well. Nicely styled!

The skirt in #2 is cute...too bad about the wrinkles. I really like the citron top with the dark olive jacket. Great find on those heels!

  • ManidipaM replied 12 years ago

I actually love outfit #2 even more than #1, which is pretty darn awesome already. I like the softness and crushed-ness of the printed skirt with that green jacket and yellow top a lot, and something about the skirt's print and wrinkles actually coordinates with your fab new shoes to my eye!

But I do realize wrinkles are a deal-breaker for many people. I guess I'm in the minority myself --- crunchy enough to revel in them, because the wrinkles are often on the greener side of the fence!

  • Kiwichik replied 12 years ago

I agree with MandipaM love #2and think that the skirt looks fine I didn't really notice the wrinkles in the full length photo due to the pattern. The new shoes are fantastic.

  • citygirldc replied 12 years ago

My favorite is #2. It seem more flattering to my eyes rather than 1 because the first jacket looks a bit boxy to me. That yellow color looks divine on you.

  • sarah replied 12 years ago

LOVE both of these, right down to the shoes, Amy. Have you tried pressing with starch? I have no idea if that would help with the wrinkles, but it might be worth a try.

  • missvee replied 12 years ago

I still think you should take the skirt back to BR and complain. Yes it's linen and you expect some wrinkling - that's the nature of the fabric. But this is way beyond wrinkling it's more like creasing that you would have ironed in to the fabric. I really like linen as a summer fabric and I don't mind the wrinkling but this just seems to be a poor quality fabric to me. BR may not want to refund your money, but in the interest of customer good will they might offer you a credit - it's worth a try!

  • kimlee replied 12 years ago

You look great in both outfits. But I absolutely love the combination of yellow and black.

  • Emily replied 12 years ago

It's too bad about the skirt because outfit 2 looks fantastic. If it helps, everything that I've read suggests that linen will get softer and less wrinkle prone the more you wash it... I also how the shoes are perfectly neutral but still interesting. Well done!

  • Jem replied 12 years ago

You look great! My favorite is #2, too bad the skirt is so wrinkly!! I LOVE your new shoes, too!

  • harmonica replied 12 years ago

You look great in both outfits! My favorite is #2 and those new shoes.., me like! :-)
