NAS Part 2 - K/R Leather Jacket and Houndstooth Blouse

This Halogen leather jacket made it as one of Angie's recommendations with the caveat that the leather is not butter soft. It's supple, but tougher feeling than some others. What do you think of the style/fit?

I love the houndstooth blouse. My only reservation is that is't a teeny bit too large in the shoulders. The smaller size was far too tight in the bust area. Is it ok? Or should I return it?

TIA for your help!!!

P.S. Will someone please nag my son and get him to mow the lawn?

Wow! That leather jacket looks like it was made for you!
I like the blouse, too. The shoulders like fine to me. How will you style it?
    I vote keep both!

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

like the blouse on you. I'm not particurarly keen on the fit of the leather jacket. Let's see how others chime in!

  • annagybe replied 11 years ago

    I like both.

  • lyn* replied 11 years ago

LOVE the leather jacket!!!!! Wow; that fits super well, doesn't it? The houndstooth print is really cute on you - you can pull it off!

PS: I never mowed the lawn. I threatened that I'd buy a goat.

  • Melinda replied 11 years ago

I love the houndstooth blouse on you - the wide shoulder feels intentional to me, and I wouldn't have even noticed it if you hadn't pointed it out. The jacket looks like it fits well when zipped, although personally I'm a fan of jackets hitting a few inches lower on the hip. It seems I may be in the minority though as all of the non-trench-length leather jackets I tried on at NAS this year seemed short to me. :)

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Lyn, goats are more trouble than help. True story: I milked goats one summer to earn cash for school. They are CRAZY animals.

I imagine the leather jacket would look better with a skirt or some of my wide-legged trousers.

I'm not sure how I'll style the houndstooth blouse. I'd love to pair it with colored pants or a skirt, but my closet's limited in that way. I could wear it with black trousers and my red/orange jacket.

  • marianna replied 11 years ago

I like both pieces too! You've done well at NAS!

  • Sveta replied 11 years ago

Both are keepers if you are satisfied with the quality of the leather.
I could not help it : you are so pretty I cannot stand it! :-)

  • Deborah replied 11 years ago

The jacket is fab. You must keep. The cut, length, everything works for you.

I love the blouse but I feel the same way I did about it when Aida posted it. I like it .. but I can't put my finger on it. I suspect the styling will make it. I like your idea of putting it with a colored jacket. I think it will work beautifully once styled.

Did Angie also get that blouse? I wonder how she will wear it?

  • K. Period. replied 11 years ago

    I like both! Great purchases!

  • qpswan replied 11 years ago

    Dear Amy's Son,

Your mom's new clothes fit her perfectly. Too bad that she didn't have a perfectly mowed lawn as a backdrop...

  • Sunita replied 11 years ago

Keep the leather jacket and we'll be jacket twins twice over! I have that one too, and love it. I'm envious of how well yours fits you...the sleeves on mine are too long. I've been meaning to post pics of my leather and Lafayette jackets.

I like the houndstooth blouse too. I passed on that one because I found it too tight in the shoulders/bust.

  • cjh replied 11 years ago

The jacket fits great, and if you don't mind the stiffer leather, then keep! As to the blouse, I also like a more fitted shoulder (less drop) but this has minimal drop shoulder and fits so well otherwise. Maybe you should try it on with some of your slacks or skirts, and see if you have some stronger feelings one way or another.

Personally, I'd be really tempted by this one, but my recent discovery that I don't really favor high contrast means it would not make it out of my closet much. (Now if it was navy and black, or navy and emerald green, it would be perfect.)

  • sarah replied 11 years ago

Wow, both of those look terrific on you!

I'll nag your son if you'll nag mine (about cleaning up his legos and making his bed) ; )

  • Kari replied 11 years ago

I love both, Amy. Does the jacket fit well on you while it's zipped?

  • KathyL replied 11 years ago

The jacket looks amazing on you! I think the fit is fantastic. Not a huge fan of the houndstooth shirt personally, but the fit looks good on you. It will be interesting to see how Angie styles it. I'm pretty boring and can only imagine it with black pants.

  • ManidipaM replied 11 years ago

Amy, I think the shoulder fit on that blouse is actually perfect! Most blouses/shirts for women actually sit inside the rotator cuff when they ought to be bang on it --- and then there's all sorts of gaping and pulling lower down and across the back if you're someone who reaches upwards or backwards often. :-/ This one: just right.

Love the jacket too. Looks like you found a keeper!

And may I see your hair looks adorable these days?

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Amy, the leather jacket did make it onto the list! But I warned readers about the less than super soft leather. It fits you perfectly, and I love it on you.

The blouse looks fab too! The shoulders are fine. This is not a fitted look.

And I adore your new hair do. It is growing out beautifully.

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

    Thanks, gals!

Kari, the jacket is comfortable zipped. It's not...tight, but it is form-fitting.

Sarah, I'll have a talk with your son, lol.

Mandipa, that's interesting. See, this looks to me like it's a little bit outside the rotator cuff, but just a smidge.

Sunita, you and I certainly seem to be drawn to the same things!

I'm still working on coming up with style ideas for the houndtsooth blouse. I tried pairing it with my yellow skirt and then realized I looked like a taxi cab. Funny!

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Hi Angie, it looks like we were posting at the same time.

My mistake about the list :)

I'm always glad when you weigh in!

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

    Taxi cabs are fun :)

I had clients who loved this leather jacket because it fit so well and the price was right. I had others who preferred buttery leather. It's still a great jacket no matter what! Can you wear it to work, Amy?

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Angie, that *is* a question for me. I'm going to try wearing it over one of my dresses, and if I get a lot of raised eyebrows, then I'll save it for date night. Hubby loves it :)

  • Angie replied 11 years ago

Hubs and I are on the same wavelength :)

I was hoping that you might try it over your dresses and skirt outfits for work.

  • rae replied 11 years ago

Love both! The jacket fits you soooo nicely!

  • Mamapicklejuice replied 11 years ago

I adore the jacket on you, Amy - it fits like a glove! The shirt also looks wonderful on you. I think I like your hair best of all - are you growing it out? It's at a lovely stage! :)))

  • Jamie replied 11 years ago

So glad to find this thread, Amy. I bought the same blouse, and it looks pretty much the same on me in the shoulders and sleeve length. I tried to size down, but then the shoulders were too narrow and the sleeves too short, so I stuck with the original one I bought. And I love the leather jacket on you!!

  • Transcona Shannon replied 11 years ago

Wow Amy - I love both of these on you! In fact, you have inspired me with this blouse and I just ordered it in petite. I love the blowsy look of it.

  • Amy replied 11 years ago

Mamapicklejuice, thanks! Yes, I'm growing my hair out...just a little bit more. I like it at about chin length. I'm convinced my stylist is a miracle-worker because I ususally feel shaggy and awful during a grow-out, but she's kept me feeling happy about my hair.

Jamie and Shannon, I'm looking forward to seeing how you style the blouse!

  • Mamapicklejuice replied 11 years ago

Haha, yes, as I was typing this I thought, am I really writing "growing out" and "lovely stage" at the same time??? I think I might hate her a little bit. HA!

  • rachylou replied 11 years ago

I can't believe how much I love these items on you, Amy. They were made for you. With you wearing them, they have that je ne sais quoi.

  • JR replied 11 years ago

They're lovely. Although I'm prejudiced in favour of the blouse - I had one just like it in high school and absolutely loved it. Quite apart from my prejudice, the shoulders do not look too big to me.

  • Beth replied 11 years ago

I love both pieces. The length of the jacket makes me think it'll look fantastic paired with dresses and skirts (see Kari's pictures of the same jacket (but in caramel) worn this way...she looks great). The shirt has lots of promise and would be awesome with cigarette pants and a pair of feminine oxfords.

As for goats, they are intelligent and delightful creatures. Don't pick on them or Tango will be sad.

  • Sona replied 11 years ago

I just want to revisit my comments. I said I was not sure about the fit on Amy. What I meant was it actually fit her size wise very well but given that she has such an amazingly long torso I was having difficulty seeing it buttoned up with jeans as in pic 1. To my eye wearing it open with say even the houdstooth blouse would look better. So how do I cure myself of this 'poison eye'? After all short leather jackets totally rock and Amy looks GORGEOUS in it. Just trying to help retrain my eye...any pointers appreciated...

  • Meredith1953 replied 11 years ago

Wow! That jacket fits you like a glove. It's really beautiful on you and I also love the houndstooth blouse on you. The shoulders don't look big to me and I don't think it is supposed to be overly fitted.

  • Mochi replied 11 years ago

Skipped the other posts...I love how your style is evolving, Amy...that jacket is a fantastic look for you. I sort of feel it fits, but that you'd be better off wearing it unzipped. It looks like one of the zippers in the front extends up into your lower chest, and for myself, that would make me self-conscious. But if you don't mind that, the fit looks good.

The blouse is another nice fit. And I'm editing this to add that that is a fabulous haircut for you.

  • Isabel replied 11 years ago

Wow, that leather jacket really fits you sooooo well. KEEP.

And the houndstooth print on you is just FABULOUS !!!!!!! AKA : KEEP.

  • CocoLion replied 11 years ago

Both look great. I really love the blouse on you, just as is. It looks soft and pretty but not too conservative.

And Beth -- Tango is adorable, would he like to come over for a play date with our horses (and he's welcome to as many weed as he would like).
