Happy Mother's Day!

I hope all of you mothers are doing something special today. I'm feeling nostalgic about all the wonderful times I've had with my own mother, and wish she weren't quite so far away.

I was inspired by Angie's recent post about the influence her mother had on her own sense of style to reflect on how my mother influenced me.

First of all, she and I have very different tastes, like apples and oranges, so tracking influence was difficult for me. She likes neutrals and earth tones. I like loud colors. She likes loose shapes. I am drawn to more fitted silhouettes.

She is an accomplished seamstress, however, and taught me a lot about construction and quality. We share a love of beautiful fabric...silks and wools and high count cottons make us swoon.

You can see I came by my love of polka dots naturally. No one, however, is going to get me back into a plaid suit or a sailor suit.

My mother is fun and quirky in all the best ways. Everyone loves her and my kids are her biggest fans (after me).

These photos and reflections are so precious, Amy. I can see a resemblance! Now we know where your devastating ravishing-ness comes from.

I could eat you up in that school uniform little Miss. Toehead. And just look at you in your checked suit :)

"She likes neutrals and earth tones. I like loud colors" - just like my Mum and me.

I just love how Mum passed on her skill of sewing and love of luxurious fabrics onto you. I wonder which style influences you will be passing onto your daughter :)

So lovely! We are lucky to have our moms! I am going to a late brunch for my mom in a bit and will post the photo we always take to mark the occasion. Perhaps this or another thread could be started for us to all post a picture of todays event.

Great pictures, Amy! Happy Mother's Day!

I got a text message from DS (he is in college, studying for his finals) with Mother's Day wishes, which was nice. We have a female robin taking care of 4 eggs on the honeysuckle vine on our porch, which seems very appropriate for Mother's day. :)

Happy Mother's Day to all. I'm not geographically close enough to see my mom today either (but I sent a card/gift and called). I don't think I noticed my mom's fashion until I wanted to borrow her clothes. I did have the luxury of using her huge supply of formal gowns for dressup and princess costumes. I feel badly now I ruined them all. My mom made all our clothes too (and I think a lot of her own) when we were small. I don't know how she did it as I have no time with 2 little kids. I did not inherit her seamstress skills sadly.

Thank you for sharing Amy. Wonderful pictures too. It is hard to have our Moms far away when we wish we could hug them tight and just 'be'.

What special memories those pictures must bring - your mom had taught you well!

Amy, thanks for sharing. You do resemble your mom a lot. When I was little this was one of my biggest frustrations that I did not look like my beautiful mom...
I just came back from visiting my mom - I am so lucky that she lives so close to me now!
